Ultra Trail Serra da Freita

Ultra Trail Serra da Freita is one of Portugal's toughest trail races, held in late June in Arouca and organised by the Confraria Trotamontes club with the municipality's support. Distances include the Elite Trail of about 100 km with nearly 6,900 m of climbing, the 65 km Ultra, the 31 km Trail, the 19 km Mini-Trail and a 12 km walk, with an ExpoTrail in the race village. The courses use paths, stream beds and forest roads across the Freita massif, crossing into neighbouring Vale de Cambra and São Pedro do Sul, with the start on Praça Brandão de Vasconcelos in central Arouca. The UNESCO Arouca Geopark is known for the Frecha da Mizarela waterfall, the 'birthing stones' and the Paiva Walkways with the 516 Arouca suspension bridge.
