Louzantrail has been organised by the Montanha Clube since 2000 — the first edition was called Enduro Serra da Lousã, it took its current name in 2013 and since 2019 it has been held in winter, in January. Participation has grown from 131 to over 1,000; choose the 43 km ultra with 3,000 m of climbing, the 28 km long trail, the 15 km short trail, a 10 km walk or the 'Little Foxes' kids' run. The courses visit the finest spots of the Lousã range: the Mirante viewpoint, Terreiro das Bruxas, the Senhora da Piedade sanctuary beneath 11th-century Arouce Castle, Trevim summit and the schist villages of Talasnal, Casal Novo, Candal and Cerdeira. Lousã is the heart of the Schist Villages: stone houses, cosy taverns serving chanfana goat stew and forest paths to waterfalls.
