STE Sintra Trail X'treme is organised by Declive Sublime in September and has twice hosted Portuguese championships — the national trail title in 2018 and the sprint trail title in 2022. Distances are 33 km with 1,670 m of climbing, 23 km, 13 km, an 8 km walk and kids' races. The routes follow steep, technical paths across the Sintra hills, including sections of Sintra-Cascais Natural Park open only to participants, with start and finish on Praça D. Fernando II in São Pedro de Sintra. UNESCO-listed Sintra means the fairy-tale Pena Palace, the Moorish Castle, mysterious Quinta da Regaleira with its initiation well and sweet travesseiros in old pastry shops.
