Ultra Trail Vipava Valley (UTVV)
The Ultra Trail Vipava Valley (UTVV) is a spring trail festival in western Slovenia's Vipava valley; in April 2026 its 11th edition drew more than 2,600 runners and hikers from 60 countries. The races have Roman names: the 163 km Emperor (6,700 m of climbing), the 110 km Centurion, the 63 km Gladiator, the 30 km Legionar, the 15 km Asterix, the 10 km Castra Run and the relaxed Obelix Hike & Wine. The Emperor route crosses the Hubelj and Vipava rivers, runs through vineyards, climbs Nanos, the Trnovo plateau and Čaven, passes Lijak and Sveta Gora, crosses the Soča into Italy via Gorizia and returns through Cerje, Branik and Planina. More than 600 volunteers and 17 aid stations keep it going. The Vipava valley is a land of wine and the bora wind, with cellars pouring Zelen and Pinela and the Roman fort remains of Castra in Ajdovščina.
