Ultra X Finland is part of the international Ultra X series, held in late June in the Salpausselkä UNESCO Global Geopark, starting and finishing in Lahti. Distances are 25, 50, 60 and 110 km, with the 110 km run in one go or over two days with a tent camp; races count for the UTMB Index, and finishing here is part of the European Slam with Ultra X Slovenia and Madeira. Routes follow ridges left by the ice sheet some 12,000 years ago, through forests and along lakes; technicality is moderate, the 110 km climbs about 2,240 m, and cut-offs are generous. Light summer nights, a finisher's medal and a friendly crew are what runners praise most. Lahti offers its ski-jump sports centre with over 100 km of trails, the Vesijärvi waterfront and the wooden Sibelius Hall.
