Uppsala Marathon is a mid-October race in the historic university town of Uppsala, 70 km north of Stockholm. There is a marathon, a half marathon and a four-person relay, with caps of 1,750 marathoners, 2,700 half marathoners and 125 relay teams. Start and finish are by the pink Uppsala Castle on its hill, and the course runs through the town and its surroundings with little elevation change: about 220 m of climbing in the marathon and about 100 m in the half, a good chance for a PB in cool weather. Aid stations come roughly every 5 km, and sponsors add some unusual extra stations along the way. Uppsala offers its majestic cathedral, the university's Gustavianum with its anatomical theatre, the Linnaeus Garden and the royal burial mounds of Old Uppsala.
