The Utena Hippodrome Marathon takes place in early October; the 2026 race was its seventh edition. The race hub is the Utena hippodrome, which the organisers call the best and most modern in the Baltic states, so runners compete where horses usually gallop. Distances run from a 400 m kids' race and a 1 km family run to 3, 5 and 10 km, a half and a full marathon, so whole families come along. It's organised by the Maratomanija community and the Utenos bėgimai club, known for their warm, friendly events. Utena is the gateway to Aukštaitija, a land of lakes with Aukštaitija National Park, wooden villages and the Ladakalnis viewpoint close by.
