UVT Liberty Marathon is organised by the West University of Timișoara and held its eighth edition in 2025, in late September over a weekend devoted to running. The programme includes a marathon, half marathon, relay, cross races and children's runs, bringing students, staff and whole families to the start. The flat course follows the Bega river through the city's green and historic centre. Around the race there is a real community: weekly training sessions, club meetups, charity actions, sports talks and #TutuRace, a run celebrating female solidarity, with Olympic judo champion Alina Dumitru as ambassador. Timișoara is a city of squares and parks where the 1989 Romanian Revolution began: Victory Square, the Revolution Memorial and cosy cafés along the Bega.
