Vaasa Maraton is held in mid-September and reached its 40th edition in 2026. The course is an officially measured 10.5 km loop along Vaasa's shoreline: four laps for the marathon, two for the half and one for the 10.5 km, plus a free kids' minimarathon. The route is fairly flat, roughly half asphalt and half hard-packed gravel, crossing the bridge to Vaskiluoto island and the Tropiclandia spa. Start and finish are at Kaarlen kenttä field; every finisher gets a medal, with trophies for the podium and lottery prizes too. Vaasa is a bilingual city on the Gulf of Bothnia next to the UNESCO-listed Kvarken Archipelago, with its land rising from the sea and Finland's longest bridge at Replot.
