The Veluwse Ultra Trail (VUT100) takes place in late July in Elspeet, in the heart of the Veluwe — the largest forest area in the Netherlands. The 50, 75 and 100 km distances on two unique loops cross heather in full bloom, pine forests and drifting sands — a landscape that surprises anyone who thinks the country is flat and uniform. It carries a UTMB index, so runners come to earn points for the big mountains. Hoge Veluwe National Park with the Kröller-Müller Museum and Het Loo Palace are nearby.
