The Verbier Ultra is a September mountain trail event in the Val de Bagnes below Verbier, designed as an 'even purer, even rawer' high-mountain experience. The main format, the VU100 'Traversée de Bagnes', is three days, three stages and one crossing: 102 km with about ±8,000 m of elevation change on high trails, passes and huts. For those wanting to start smaller there is the VU42 Bagnes Ultra Marathon, the final Sunday stage from the Cabane Brunet to Bonatchiesse, which the organisers recommend as a first step into ultras. Verbier is one of Switzerland's best-known mountain resorts, with freeride skiing in the 4 Vallées in winter and, in summer, hiking, the Mauvoisin lake and its huge dam and the villages of the Val de Bagnes.
