Vienna City Marathon

The Vienna Marathon starts by the UN building on the Danube, crosses the river via the Reichsbrücke bridge, and runs past Schönbrunn Palace and through Prater park — on the very avenue where Eliud Kipchoge first ran a marathon under two hours. The finish on the Ringstrasse by City Hall turns into a festival: a big screen, music, non-alcoholic beer, and a line for medal engraving. April here is a lottery — some years stay spring-cool, others surprise you with 22°C by the finish.

Reviews
Jessie Benson (The Right Fits)2023
The start to Strauss's Blue Danube Waltz was beautiful, but the heat by the finish (22°C) hit hard. Water stations felt too sparse for a day like that.
Theresa Wylie (Hey Traveler)2023
A flat, smooth course with long straightaways — the very Prater avenue where Kipchoge ran a sub-two-hour marathon. The Rathausplatz finish felt like a music festival.
