The Vilnius Spring Marathon takes place in early May under the motto 'Nature awakens, movement awakens' and opens the running season in the capital. Distances range from 600 m for the youngest to 5.3 and 10.6 km, a half and a full marathon, so beginners and seasoned marathoners alike take part. The race hub is the stage in Vingis Park, Vilnius's largest park, and the course follows its avenues through fresh spring greenery, with stretches along the Neris. It's organised by the Maratomanija community, always known for a warm, friendly vibe. Vilnius means a UNESCO-listed baroque Old Town, Gediminas Tower above the meeting of the Neris and Vilnia, bohemian Užupis and Lithuanian food from cepelinai to cold beetroot soup.
An easy run with a local club the day before the race — the best way to shake out the legs and meet the city.
