The Warsaw Marathon has run since 1979 — Poland's oldest — and still feels like a mid-sized city race for 7,000 runners, with a hometown atmosphere at big-city scale. The course is flat, crosses the Vistula around km 15, loops through the tidy Old Town around halfway, and finishes with one final bridge climb around km 35. At the start, runners are asked to toss unwanted layers over the barrier for charity, and after the finish comes a pasta party at the Palace of Culture and Science plus surprisingly high logistics scores — near-perfect marks for course navigation and safety.

A reasonably-sized city marathon of 7,000 runners, so it had this great local race feeling, while still having big city benefits: ideal weather, a flat course full of history, and an awesome cheering squad.
