Brathay Windermere Marathon
13 June 2027 · Ambleside (Lake District), UK
marathonscenichillyspringlakesidenaturelake district
The Brathay Windermere Marathon has been organised by the Brathay Trust since the mid-2000s and now takes place in June; runners raise money to support vulnerable children and young people. The route is a full anticlockwise lap of Windermere, England's largest lake: from Ambleside through Hawkshead, Newby Bridge and Bowness on quiet, partly traffic-free Lakeland roads. Around 600 m of climbing, ever-changing views of lake and fells and an intimate atmosphere make it one of the country's most beautiful marathons. The Lakes offer steamer cruises on Windermere, the world of Beatrix Potter, fell walks and pubs pouring local ale.
