RUN Winschoten is a name in world ultra-running: the event turned 50 in 2026. In September there are 100 km and 50 km, a marathon, a 10×10 km relay and 5 km on an officially measured, traffic-free course — ultra runners complete laps with a central start and finish. The real draw is the atmosphere: tens of thousands of spectators, streets competing for the best decorations, and local host families who feed and house 50 km and 100 km runners for free. Winschoten is a small town in north-east Groningen near the Bourtange star fort.
