Kärnten Läuft is a big running festival on the Wörthersee held in late August since 2001; the jubilee 2026 edition drew 10,000 runners from 69 nations, and in 2027 it runs from 27 to 29 August. The flagship is the half marathon from the Schlosshotel in Velden along the lakeshore to Klagenfurt, with turquoise water, villas and lidos all the way. There is also a quarter marathon, walking events, kids' races and even a dog run. Around it springs up a whole village: an expo, 'Running City', yoga, massage, live music and parties. The Wörthersee is one of the warmest large lakes in the Alps — swimming, boat trips, the Pyramidenkogel observation tower and Klagenfurt with its dragon emblem and Minimundus park.
