The Wörthersee Marathon is a new autumn marathon in Carinthia: the first edition took place on 27 September 2026 under the motto 'Run the Lake'. Start and finish are at Klagenfurt's lido, and the route makes a full lap of the lake: the first half follows the hilly south shore through Reifnitz and below the Pyramidenkogel to Velden, the second returns via Pörtschach and Krumpendorf to Klagenfurt. Besides the marathon there is a team marathon for 2–10 people, 'The Wild Beauty' half marathon along the south shore and a 'Walk the Lake' option. It is a race for the scenery: turquoise water, belle-époque villas and the Karawanken on the horizon. Klagenfurt has the Lindwurm dragon on its Neuer Platz, the Minimundus park and lake swimming well into autumn.
