Wolfgangseelauf (Salzkammergut Erlebnislauf)
The International Wolfgangseelauf is the Salzkammergut's autumn running festival, and in 2026 it holds its 54th edition on 17–18 October; nearly 7,000 people from 58 nations took part in 2025. The classic is the 27 km lap of the Wolfgangsee, with about 220 m of climbing over the Falkenstein, and since 2011 there has also been the Salzkammergut Marathon, which starts in Bad Ischl before joining the same loop. There is also a 10 km shore run with a boat transfer, a flat 5.2 km panorama run from Strobl, the 'Walk the Lake' and a junior marathon. The course runs mostly on natural paths by the water, through Fürberg and Abersee, every finisher gets a special medal, and it features among the '38 most beautiful runs in the world'. Around the lake are St. Wolfgang with the White Horse Inn, St. Gilgen, the Schafberg cog railway and the spa town of Bad Ischl with its Zauner pastry shop.
