The Žolinė Marathon takes place in mid-August on Žolinė, the Feast of the Assumption, when Lithuanians traditionally bless bouquets of herbs and wildflowers; the 2026 race was its eighth edition. It's traditionally held in Vingis Park on a 5.275 km loop, with options from a 500 m family run to one, two, four, six or eight laps: 5.3, 10.5, 21, 31.6 and 42 km. Instead of a standard medal, every finisher, from the youngest to the oldest, gets a metal figurine — a different herb or plant each year, so the collection keeps growing. The Maratomanija organisers aim to celebrate the holiday in a healthy, joyful and sober way, and the race counts towards the Lithuanian Running Cup. Vilnius means a UNESCO-listed baroque Old Town, Gediminas Tower above the meeting of the Neris and Vilnia, bohemian Užupis and Lithuanian food from cepelinai to cold beetroot soup.
An easy run with a local club the day before the race — the best way to shake out the legs and meet the city.
