The Zürcher Silvesterlauf is a December race through Zurich's old town and centre, held for the 50th time in 2026 under the motto 'Dä Lauf für alli', the run for everyone. The courses run through the narrow lanes of the Altstadt, past churches and along the Limmat, with plenty of short climbs on the cobbles, while festive lights and crowds create a real holiday mood. Distances range from 1.4 km for families and children to 8.5 km for recreational runners, with pairs relays, charity runs and elite races, and the 'never walk alone' programme helps athletes with disabilities take part. Zurich in December means Christmas markets at the main station and Werdmühleplatz, the lights of the Bahnhofstrasse, museums and fondue in old guild houses.
An easy run with a local club the day before the race — the best way to shake out the legs and meet the city.
